Diamond in the not-so-rough.

Not only did we luck out on having a spectacular wedding weekend, but we then headed off to Fiji for our honeymoon. We chose not to go the usual Americanized resort route, and oh man did that ever pay off. It was gorgeous. Nukubati, vinaka vaka levu (thank you very much) for the magical memories. We’ll continue to sing your praises for years to come.

For anyone planning their honeymoon in the Pacific, I’d highly suggest Nukubati Island. It’s privately owned (yes, the island) and has a resort that only serves seven burres at a time. So at most there are around 14 guests on your island at any time. We lucked out by spending time with the owner many afternoons: a beautiful woman named Jenny Leewai Bourke with a fascinating story about growing up in Fiji, moving to Australia and developing this wonderland  to give back to her home communities. Along with our time with Jenny, the other favorite part of our time in Fijian paradise was the staff. They were kind, selfless, and always up to take you on your next excursion.

For those of you watching your cash flow more closely (or with all the home goods already), there are honeymoon registries out there that could help you have your cake (& dress & wedding), and eat (on your honeymoon) too… There are sites that allow your guests to purchase couples massages, dinner for two, champagne and strawberries, etc, so all you’d be left to do is pick the days and use your airline points for travel!
